My experience at Apeksha Hospital Maharagama was extremely distressing and heartbreaking.

My mother was admitted on 26th January. At the time of admission, I clearly informed the medical team that she had a confirmed allergy to the antibiotic Piptaz (Piperacillin/Tazobactam). I personally showed the allergy test card and clearly explained her previous allergic reaction history. This information was provided before any treatment decisions were made.

Despite being fully aware of this documented allergy, Dr. Somawardana decided to administer Piptaz to my mother.

After the first dose, she developed clear signs of an allergic reaction. Instead of immediately stopping the medication and carefully monitoring her, the reaction was not taken seriously. Shockingly, a second dose of the same antibiotic was given. After the second dose, her allergic reaction became severe and life-threatening.

When I questioned the ward doctors about why a known allergen was given, they shifted responsibility and told me that the decision was made by Dr. Somawardana. When I approached him respectfully to understand what had happened, he was extremely rude, dismissive, and blamed me instead of addressing the medical concern.

Following this incident, my mother was transferred to Ward 2. Within two days, she passed away.

As a son, I did everything possible to inform the medical team about her allergy. I trusted the doctors with my mother’s life. I strongly believe that our concerns were ignored and that there was a serious lack of accountability and compassion in handling her case.

Losing my mother is the greatest pain of my life. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend this doctor.
